Lossiemouth Harbour

Today is a great day for wandering along the sea front here at Lossiemouth.  For one thing you can do so without being blown off your feet or having a nice bracing shower in sea spray as the waves lash against the harbour walls.  Also sun-glasses are needed!

There's plenty of work going on in the harbour too, with boat owners looking over the boats and doing, what i'm guessing, is all the small jobs that a boat requires to remain sea-worthy. Some boats are getting a slightly more extensive going over.
I always think that the boats propped up on stilts like this looks extremely precarious, but what do I know,  I'm just someone wandering around pointing a camera at stuff and posting here so that everyone can see what's happening in and around Lossie.

Looking at the long range forecasts ( if they can ever be believed) it seems that we're in for a couple of weeks of decent weather with no high winds expected.  I'll try and get a closer look along the front for some shots of the ongoing sea wall repairs.  I'm sure that you're all as baffled as me why they decided to do the repairs in the middle of winter, it seemed a bit strange to remove the temporary wall and leave a huge gaping hole.  I'm sure there was a well thought out plan.

Winter Wonderland?

Well, where did that come from?   Today has definitely been a day where the right clothes are needed.  As the sun goes down and it starts to darken up the beach has a distinctly chilly look to it.

I don't think that I've ever had a snowball fight on a beach before.  I still haven't.

The Wrong Clothes

Following on from yesterday today is one of those days where I may have had the wrong clothes on.  I think in the tourist brochures around the world this kind of weather at coastal resorts is referred to as "bracing".

Well today is a day to be braced!

It's also a day to be jacketed and hatted.  And gloved!

Obviously the last week was just to lull us into a false sense of security and tempt us to switch off the heating.  Well I won't fall for that one again.

There's no such thing as bad weather.....

There's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes!  ( I don't know who I stole this from but thanks whoever it was.)

Today is a great illustration of that.  It may look a bit rubbish to the uninitiated but today was a cracking day for a stroll.
As you can see even on a grey wet sort of day the Lighthouse still stands up there on the headlands.  The local wildlife were enjoying themselves too.  In fact they were enjoying themselves so much they flew out of the picture before I could press the button.  With the change to slightly bigger seas there have been sightings of the surfers back in the water along with the jet-skis flapping around doing what they do.  It's nice to see them back out there again.

Anyway I'm putting this up as my picture of the lighthouse following on from yesterday's post.  I'm still sorting through the hundreds of shots i received from you all yesterday.  ( Feel free to send more in....)

Lighthouse

I see that the grant the Covesea Lighthouse Community Company were seeking has been approved and the Lighthouse will soon become a hub for local tourism.  It certainly is one of the most striking locations in the region.

It's a building that dominates the cliff tops and is visible for miles around. ( Pretty handy for a lighthouse I hear you all cry.)

I was going to post my own picture of the lighthouse but then i thought that perhaps it was time for me to see what talents you all have with a camera.  So come on Lossiemouth (and beyond if you wish) let's be having your pictures of the lighthouse.  Let's have shots of the lighthouse in all weathers and light.  It always looks fabulous when the sun is setting in just the right place but i'm sure it could look just as spectacular from the right place in any weather.

So come on folks, get your snaps out!
